The New York Bulldogs competed during the 1949 NFL season, following the relocation of the Boston Yanks to New York. Playing their home games at the legendary Polo Grounds in Manhattan, the Bulldogs represented the league's effort to establish a second NFL franchise alongside the New York Giants.
Despite featuring talented players and competing against powerhouse teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, and Washington Redskins, the Bulldogs struggled throughout their lone season, finishing with a 1–10–1 record. Although success on the field proved elusive, the franchise remained an important part of the NFL's post-war expansion and evolution.
Following the 1949 season, the organization was renamed the New York Yanks for the 1950 campaign before eventually folding a few years later. While the Bulldogs existed for only one season, their story represents one of the NFL's most intriguing transitional franchises and remains a favorite among collectors of vintage football history.
